Panasonic releases new firmware for Lumix DMC-GH4, and updates Leica 42.5mm and Lumix G 30mm macro lenses
Rather over looked due to the excitement around the DC-GH5 V2.0 firmware were Panasonic’s latest releases for the DMC-GH4 high end camera, the 42.5mm f/1.2 Leica portrait lens and the 30mm f/2.8 macro. The firmware updates are small but significant, and add great utility to the lenses in particular.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4
Following bugs are fixed:
– In VFR (Variable Frame Rate) shooting mode, there were cases where the image stabilization did not operate when non-Panasonic interchangeable lens is used. This bug has been fixed.
H-HS030 – Lumix G Macro 30mm f/2.8 ASPH Mega OIS
H-NS043 – Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH. Power IOS
Dual I.S.2 is available by this firmware update.
(in case of the usage of Camera with this function)
This update enables these two lenses to work with Panasonic’s new Dual IS 2 system. Dual IS 2 is only available at the moment in the DC-GH5 and the DMC-G80 but is the system the company will use in future products. The DMC-GX8 and the GX80 have Dual IS, but the version 1 that doesn’t operate in video mode.
The advantage of updating your lenses is you have either of these cameras will be better image stabilisation in both still and movie modes as well as in 4K Photo/ 6K Photo modes. New tuning of the lens’s systems means that they can make the most of the more advanced gyros in the Dual IS 2 bodies.
The Dual IS system allows the in-camera stabilisation to work simultaneously with the in-lens stabilisation to produce a more intricate response to camera shake that takes into account focal length, focus distance and the physical properties of the lens.
