A while ago, I bought a passive L-Mount to PENTAX K-Mount adapter for my LUMIX S1R but was never able to nail focus with it. This weekend, I realised this was because I had continuous preview turned on. With longer exposures, this integrates the image over time to give a proper preview. This makes manual focus VERY difficult as the exposure is building as you rotate the focus ring. Lesson learned…. focus and then preview. I am not a the biggest fan of Christmas, but I wanted to test my contention out and this subject matter also gives a little bokeh in the background too. This image was taken using my SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 mounted on my LUMIX S1R. The lens is around 35 years old and is excellent condition. It is a little soft wide open (as it was for this shot)and the effectiveness of the anti-reflection coatings is not up to modern standards, however, it can still produce nice images with a particular quality about them. Shot at f/1.7 with an exposure of 1.3s at ISO100. Developed from RAW using DxO PhotoLab 3, some light stylisation using DxO Viviza and final edits performed using Affinity Photo.
