We spent the first week of our recent holiday in Kioni on the Ionian Island of Ithaca. Most of the buildings in the village are modern, or rebuilt in original shells of older houses, as many of the buildings on the island were destroyed in the 1953 eartquake. It's a lovely, relaxed place to stay with 4 tavernas (all good) and a cafe-bar and as the road to it doesn't go anywhere else, it is largely traffic free. The tourist numbers are swelled by the yacht flotillas that tie up in the harbour overnight but at this time of year, it was very peaceful and quiet.
