Southern male Hawker

Full Size

By Janp

UPDATE! It has been confirmed as a immature male Southern Hawker. Lovely to see this today though it took me a while to spot it as it was hidden! Struggling with the ID - is it a Southern Hawker, I don't think it is a Darter though I could be very wrong - as I was on my last damselfly posting! Any ideas anyone please?

I don’t know how you manage to keep taking these, Janet. You must have patience in abundance. As soon as the first few fly away, I loose interest. You’ve got two for the price of one here. Well done 😉

Definitely a hawker, but I am inclined to say it’s a female common hawker. Seems lacking in colour on the lower segments compared to a southern hawker. Not that I’m an expert in these things! Another good capture , keep them coming

Thanks John apparently it is a is a immature male Southern Hawker, I did wonder if it was but wasn’t 100% sure. There are so many varieties it is sometimes hit and miss IDing them!
