Cromwell Point Lighthouse, Valentia, Co Kerry. The lighthouse was constructed on the site of an old Cromwellian fort , which has a dungeon and checkpoint still intact. The fort had been there since 1600 and, the gun terraces facing out from the outer walls are well preserved . The walls of the old fort are nine to ten feet thick in places and, in Cromwellian times, there would have been a moat around the fort. This is known as Cromwells point , so an area of Ireland named after Oliver Cromwell.
