Shooting at Night

Shooting at night isn’t for the faint hearted, and requires a whole new set of skills for those used to only shooting by sunlight. A tripod might be needed, or a very steady hand, and we need to look a bit harder at the light to get an exposure that is going to make our scene work. The most difficult thing probably is that our eyes compensate for the darkness so much more easily than our cameras do, so to get a picture of a scene that reflects the way our eyes see it is that much more tricky. Despite the additional challenges, we have a whole pile of really excellent shots for this month’s competition, and possibly one of the best shortlists of the year. So, well done to everyone that made it as it’s been a bit tougher than usual to reach the top.
