Panasonic and Rankin Film Productions Present
WE GAVE 3 FILMMAKERS THE GH3
In collaboration with Rankin Film Productions and Hunger TV, three talented filmmaking outfits – David Allain, Vicky Lawton and Charlie&Joe – have each directed a short film to showcase the capabilities of the new Panasonic LUMIX GH3 as a high-performance tool for filmmakers.
Each week for the next three weeks a new GH3-Minute Movie will be released, including: feedback on the camera’s performance from the filmmakers and their production teams. The first of these movies will be Hertz by Vicky Lawton, starring Toby Kebbell from Black Mirror and RocknRolla.
Find out how the camera’s broadcast-standard, full HD 50p video and other professional features allowed these directors to achieve their creative vision.
What could you do with your own LUMIX GH3?
The only limit is your imagination.
GH3-Minute Movie Directors
GH3-Minute Movie, Hertz
Having graduated in Graphic Design and Photography at Kingston University, Vicky Lawton went straight on to become a Photographic Assistant for Rankin in 2008.
After a year, Rankin Film Productions was born, shooting and editing myriad music videos, commercials and fashion films all under one roof.
In addition to her work with Rankin, Vicky has directed several music videos and fashion films, marking notable collaborations with bands including Alpines and designer Katie Eary.
Her GH3-Minute film, Hertz, is an intriguing mystery, a twisty – and twisted – tale that’ll keep you guessing and have you laughing, too.
GH3-Minute Movie, At First Sight
Born in east London, David worked on commercials and films in various departments including Camera, Production and as a Storyboard Artist while honing his skills to eventually become a Writer-Director and Producer.
He describes At First Sight as a bittersweet story of boy meets girl. It shows the audience their entire relationship, from the night they meet onwards, through a series of cleverly edited scenes that flash forwards and back again.
“The GH3 felt like the perfect vehicle to capture this story, with its mixture of key set pieces and naturalistic moments.” – David Allain
GH3-Minute Movie, Neville
Charlie&Joe started working together in 2010. By combining their experience in Cinematography, Editing and Fashion, they create films for a range of clients.
Recent films include a cinema trailer for Topshop, campaign films for Barbour and their second moving-image campaign for menswear label Farrell. They have also created numerous music videos and promos for bands and artists, including Jamie Cullum, Wild Beasts, Bonobo and The Maccabees.
Neville is a comedy with a touch of tragedy. A miniature epic, with amazing location and effects work, it also presents a compact story with a message for us all.
The Camera & The Lenses
GH3 compact system camera
Designed from the ground up to provide seamless performance for both stills and videos.

The GH3 gives you 1920×1080 60p [NTSC] / 50p [PAL] Full-HD recording, and handles the wide variety of recording formats, frame rates, and bit rates that are used by broadcasting stations and production studios.
Lumix 12-35mm lens
A compact and lightweight lens with full-range F2.8 brightness.
Recommended for shooting videos, the LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm lens uses auto focus in recording videos, and has a silent design that suppresses lens drive noise, recording sound with greater clarity.
This lens is also suitable for a wide variety of occasions, from daily snapshots including scenes such as sunsets to dimly lit indoor and deliberate creative shots.

Rankin Film Productions was set up in 2011 to create a production base within the Rankin brand, creating content that includes dramas, short films, documentaries and features.
Recently, the nationwide short-film scheme Collabor8te was launched to provide opportunities for selected new filmmakers to get their projects funded, while working with established industry professionals. Now in its second year, Collabor8te is working in partnership with Nokia to seek out the most exciting new filmmaking talent from the UK and Ireland.
Alongside producing content for traditional broadcast and theatrical release, RFP’s unique relationships with Dazed & Confused and Hunger TV have provided it with two online distribution platforms.
