Woodland Fantasy

Full Size

By BigRed

The art of photography is almost impossible to define. Each practitioner brings their own view of the world around them to the subject. For me, it’s all about creating interesting and hopefully unique images. Sometimes these involve elaborate setups and post processing to achieve an idea I have in mind. On other, fortunate, occasions I’m lucky enough to spot something rare and beautiful through the viewfinder amidst the visual chaos and the mundane surroundings of everyday reality. This is one of those shots, and on balance it’s one of those I’m most proud of creating during my first year with a G1. Aside from RAW development in Lightroom there is no post processing here, the image is exactly as recorded during an October walk in the woods testing various lenses on the G1. It won’t match everyone’s conception of what makes a good photograph but I hope you enjoy the creative possibilities it suggests. All the best, John.

Thanks Debbie :) It was the unique quality of the light that drew my eye to the shot. The rest was just a matter of using a wide aperture to isolate the blossom remnants it was falling on and diffuse everything else.

I’d like to thank Phil for his comment. He’s caught exactly what this picture is about and why I chose it as my entry :)

I’ve said before John that I absolutely love this shot and I think it’s a very well deserved winner. Many congratulations!

PS (If you’ve got no wall-space left at home – I’ve a lovely place to hang the winning canvas!!!)

Many thanks for everybody’s comments. There’s now a HQ print optomised version of this shot available at my Flickr site (JohnNicholson2008 or take the link from my sig. in the Community) with an open invitation to others to download for non-commercial use. Enjoy!

    Congratulations..
This image has a wonderful ethereal feel to it and would make a great Christmas image. I have just bought my Lumix G3 and I hope I can aspire to something as beautiful as this.
